Started on Week 4 of my duathalon training this week! Im motivated and excited because I just created my custom workout schedule combining duathalon training plan and a 10K training plan. It was getting too confusing trying to combine these two in my head and I was losing track of where I was.
Last night was a 45 min run, which I ran 3.95 miles. So close! I shouldnt have stopped yet to make it an even 4 miles. Oh well. I did some sprints in that too just for fun since my friend was running with me. He is so fast on his sprinting that I felt it was quite cartoonish how fast he was compared to how slow I felt! Came home from the run and did ~ 74 pushups and some ab work.
THis morning I rode 21 miles in ~ 90 mins. A nice solid ride on the flats which seemed so EASY compared to the hills I was climbing over the weekend in the mountains. Workout for hte day is done so I can focus on preparing some good food tonight!
This week has been terrible for one reason: headache! I had a headache since MOnday night and it tried to resurface already today but I think (for now) its holding off. And I do feel like the veil has lifted so I am feeling more like my normal self.
I havent worked out this week yet (except for the challenging bike ride in Tahoe on Sunday). MOnday was a legitimate rest day. Then Tuesday became a rest day also due to headache, although I did some yoga postures/stretching to alleviate any tension in my neck and back that might be causing the headache. I cancelled my bike ride this morning because last night I just couldnt fathom biking with my headache.
If my headache stay away, I plan on doing last night’s run tonight and biking tomorrow instead. Just a little switching around to try and stay on track with this week’s duathalon training workouts.
Got to get the routine down! No matter how freakin’ hot it is in this valley (104 today BTW). My duathalon is on 9/1/12 so I dont have much wiggle room on my 8 week training plan!
Thursday I think I should do something…but not anything that would jeopardize me running the 5K on Saturday. So no calf raises and no running. Maybe some upper body weights and abs!
Ive still been trying to eat clean and do for most meals most days. But with my friend staying at my place, its harder because he has a bit of a sweet tooth and my will power can be lacking at times. I have also been juggling a full day of court for jury duty when I normally work part time and have more of hte day to myself to fit in exercise. And my cat just had some procedures done at the vet med hospital and has needed extra at home attention. So I have been dealing with a bit of stuff going on.
I didnt get many workouts in last week because of said reasons (above) and I did a workout last Monday that left my calves sore for 4+ days. And with that, I couldnt run on them and only biked once. I really need to repeat my Week 2 duathalon training this week! But I cant over do it on the running because I do have a 5K to run on Saturday night with a friend. Im not worried about finishing, Ive run 4 miles recently but just want to make sure to not run too much leading up to the event.
However, I did run for 2 miles last night and did 105 pushups and 105 jumping jacks. Needless to say I have probably not lost any weight this past week and hopefully I have been maintaining and not gaining. I will weigh myself on Thursday as my official weigh in (after some good workouts this week).
Last night was a victory/success! I finished the Couch to 5K 8 week program. This is a great accomplishment for me because I dont think that I have ever finished a program/training plan before even though I have started many. Woo hoo!
And to top it off, it was only supposed to be a 35 min run 5K (3.1 miles), I did 42 min run, 3.9 miles. I was feeling good and could go farther plus, I wasnt close to my house yet so I just kept running until I was within a 5 min walk for my cool down.
Then I got home, did 100 walking lunges, 64 squats, 64 jumping jacks, and 64 pushups; some crunches and planks. I burned 761 calories in 1.5 hours. It was a great day! Eating was pretty clean too. Good first day back after camping this weekend.
Done! Ran 30 mins plus 5min warm up and 5 min cool down. Turned out to be 2.88 miles on the 30 min run portion. It’s about a 10:20 ish min/mile.
I’m not really going for speed in the running just trying for endurance/distance right now to build time. Form felt strong today!
Burned 403 calories.
Ran Week 8 Day 1 of C25K last night. It wasnt as hard as last week’s run, thankfully. I was definitely breathing hard but my heart rate was good. I ended up burning 432 calories. My body was working!
I havent been able to work out the previous few days because of hosting my friend’s baby shower. Which was awesome, BTW! On Sunday I had a “recovery” day from the shower that was on Saturday. I was trying to catch up on sleep and life in general because all my focus was on the shower for 5 days leading up to it. So no workout on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
Here’s the funny thing: I feel like I have leaned out, even with no workouts and eating whatever I wanted on Saturday. I think that it was because I was just so active. Literally no sitting down and active all day until 1am trying to get everything done for hte shower. My weight is exactly the same but I have a feeling I am going to see a loss very soon. It is quite possible that I have lost some muscle too because I havent lifted in over 2 weeks.
I ate well today, not super clean but better than yesterday. I did have 1 serving of gummi bears as an after dinner snack. I swear once I have a sugary treat one day, the next day or two I am craving it. Once some will power kicks in and I go a few days without sugary treats, I never crave it. Sugar is definitely addicting and I can tell how my body responds to it.
Also, I went running today. Week 7Day 3 of C25K. Running 25 mins straight. It was hard….mostly because last time I ran was exactly 1 week ago. I had also taken the last two days off because of a muscle spasm in my shoulder/neck. I came home from the run which was getting very difficult towards the end because of my hip flexors and then I did an abs circuit. I did 2 sets of plank at 25sec each as part of the circuit but didnt want to over do it on my shoulder although I could have held it for much longer.
Time to go roll the shoulder out with my tennis ball on the wall. Then heat and bed. It was definitely a new day today! Better than yesterday!
…does happy dance…Im back in the 150s!!
I weighed myself this am on a whim and I am down 0.8lbs since yesterday. I had a 1lb loss yesterday for a total of 1.8 lbs this week. SO EXCITED! This proves I can do it without paying for an expensive trainer…so motivating! Here’s to momentum!
Off to Bikram yoga this morning to help loosen up this dang hip! And possibly getting in my run later but its supposed to be almost 100 degrees today. HOT!
